Overview

Our Client, who is a monthly retained customer, asked us to work with them on a project to improve their recruitment practices.  They were conscious that traditional recruitment methods could alienate and stifle those with Neurodiverse conditions and wanted to rectify this.

We worked together to improve their positioning within the recruitment market and to attract those with Neurodiverse conditions.

The dev agency identified that the majority of their staff had some form of Neurodiverse condition, but that standard recruitment practices they were using were not attracting or identifying talent as they were prohibitive for those groups.

Due to rapid growth, the business was looking to recruit a number of Web Developers, but had found that two interview rounds had not found the right people to fit with the existing team.  We discussed their current employee make-up during our monthly catch-up (which is included in their monthly retainer fee) and established that traditional recruitment methods could be off-putting for those with a Neurodiverse condition.

We introduced a number of changes to their recruitment practices; changed advert wording to make the organisation more welcoming, changed the interview process entirely and gave the candidates control over the setting (doesn’t it feel much less intimidating if you’re interviewed by walking around Ancoats rather than in a formal office setting with strangers staring at you?).

We also introduced screening and workshops to identify strong candidates, rather than work assessments and formal interviews.  Ultimately, the organisation wanted to attract and recruit talent but knowing the barriers they were presenting to candidates was the only way to achieve this.
